The diversity of Vancouver’s landscapes surprised me. I thought I was traveling to a big metropolitan city and was not expecting to find as much nature and wildlife as I did in the short amount of time we spent in the city.
My sister and I were sailing to Vancouver via cruise ship (she was guest speaking on board) and as we made our way through the straits on our way into the city, over a dozen whales welcomed us to their waters. When we were disembarking the next morning, we spotted a bald eagle sitting perched on a flag pole at Canada Place.
We visited Stanley Park, voted “the best park in the entire world” by TripAdvisor and where we were surrounded by half a million trees, and just a 20 minute drive from Downtown we found incredible hiking and nature at Grouse Mountain and Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.
With my nature fix well taken care of, we also explored the charming streets of Gastown, walked along the harbor and watched seaplanes take off from the water, and we ate some the best ramen ever at a little local spot on the West End.
From lush forest landscapes to downtown city views, the world famous Stanley Park to Capilano Suspension Bridge & more, keep reading for 20 Vancouver pictures to inspire your next trip to Canada’s West Coast.

This fisherman had a full audience (do you see the seal waiting for him to drop something in the water?). He saw us watching and offered up one of my favorite photo ops of the entire trip.
