Hi Rachel,
Yes! We've done this and it's a great option!
I'm sure you already know this, but the SD trolley drops you off right at the border and it's a good way to avoid high parking fees in San Ysidro if you'll be in Mexico for a few days. One you cross over, I know some rental car companies will send a free shuttle to meet you at the border and/or take you back. We rented with Sixt and they offered that option but it wasn't advertised, so be sure to ask! If not Uber and cabs are readily available.

Have fun!!

Hello! This post is such a helpful resource! Heading to the Valle around New Year and wondering if you have any info on walking the border and getting a rental car in Tijuana? We've read a few things recommending that since you don't have to pay for extra insurance, wait in car line for border, cheaper rates etc. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

OMG, are we the same person?? I'm cracking up because I literally say the same thing about the dirtier the better. My boyfriend and I joke that a B health score or lower will win us over every time 😂.

We usually travel in the off season so I don't have any first hand knowledge about traveling to these countries in the Summer. I would imagine that Croatia will be more busy than Poland since it's coastal, but it will be high season for both places. If it were me, I think I would do Croatia/Montenegro just because it's the epitome of a perfect Summer destination and I'd maybe focus on less busy parts of the country. That said, I really love Poland too. So I don't think you can go wrong either way!

I just discovered your blog through Pinterest because my husband and I are considering a trip to Poland this Summer, and then I started browsing around Croatia and Montenegro because that's the other destination we are toying with, and somehow ended up on this post haha. But I'm so glad I did!

From your other posts I was reading, I already decided I really liked your blog. It's informative and the pictures are incredible (not always the case). However, after reading about how you prefer the street tacos to the fancy restaurant, I love it! I am the same way haha. People always think I am kidding when I say "the dirtier the restaurant, most likely the more I'm gonna like it" but I'm not. I LIVE for a good hole in the wall and when we are traveling and I feel like I'm at a tourist place, I want to up and leave ASAP. Give me authentic, please and thank you.

Can't wait to browse around more now that I think we are on the same page ;)

Also, if you have any recommendation on Croatia/Montenegro vs. Poland at the end of June, do let me know as we are currently torn!
