Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen // The Best Non-Greasy Sunscreen, Ever

Ever since I discovered that baking in the sun for hours at a time is not a great idea, I’ve been on a never ending quest to find the best non greasy sunscreen on the market (not an easy task, might I add). Every single sunscreen advertised to be “dry touch,” “weightless” and “non greasy” have all failed me. Even if I find one that does goes on weightless, it usually comes with several different issues.  They either leave a filmy texture on the skin, break down makeup or make you shiny and greasy by mid-day. Not the Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen. After years of searching, I think I’ve finally found the holy grail of face sunscreens.

TATCHA PORE PERFECTING SUNSCREEN REVIEW

If you’re not familiar with Tatcha, their skincare formulas are based on the beauty secrets of Japanese Geishas. It’s a beautiful line and I have yet to try a product from them that I don’t like. I’d even go as far as saying their products are some of my skin care favorites.

The Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen has taken four years and over one hundred formula submissions to create. The brand wanted to create a product that was not only effective, but elegant and I really believe they did just that.

Finding a non greasy sunscreen that plays well under makeup is no easy task. Keep reading for a complete review on the Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen. From oily skin to dry skin, humidity to dry heat, this sunscreen remains constant, keeps skin looking matte and it even doubles as a primer!

BOTTOM LINE: This is the best sunscreen I have ever used. A revelation that is bittersweet, as it’s also by far the most expensive.

A SILKY SMOOTH, NON GREASY SUNSCREEN

Tatcha Pore Perfecting Suncreen has a thick and creamy texture that melts into your skin and absorbs immediately. It feels different than any other sunscreen I’ve tried; it’s silky. It applies more like a moisturizer than a sunscreen and it does not feel greasy whatsoever.

I have combination skin and I tend to get oily in my t-zone as the day goes on. This sunscreen does not make me shiny at all. In fact, I feel like it has the opposite effect as I’ve noticed that I’m actually less oily when I wear it. I don’t think Tatcha claims that the Pore Perfecting Sunscreen mattifies, but I noticed there is Japanese Wild Rose in the ingredients, which is clinically proven to reduce sebum (oil) and also boost collagen.

PLAYS WELL WITH MAKEUP

My favorite thing about this sunscreen is that it does not break down your makeup, even after 8+ hours of wear. The Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen seems to even enhance your foundation application by perfectly prepping your skin.

Tatcha claims that this sunscreen doubles as a primer which makes sense as it does feel a little primer-y. Hoever, I don’t think this would be able to completely replace your primer unless you use a lot of it.

CLIMATE CHANGES

I’ve used the Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen in a multitude of places from the dry desert heat in Dubai to Hawaii’s humid, wet climate, and so far it has remained constant.  With an SPF of 35, I do find myself needing to re-apply more often in areas where the sun is stronger

I loathe humidity but this sunscreen holds up against it and it does not add to the inevitable greasiness of your face by the end of the day. Most sunscreens are made with water particles suspended in oil which is what makes them feel greasy and gross. In the Pore Perfecting Sunscreen, Tatcha suspends botanical oils in water instead, which is why it feels so much different.

On their website, Tatcha says “we wanted something that wouldn’t be a chore to apply, something that would be a cherished part of a daily skincare ritual.” Since I have been using the Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen, I no longer dread putting on sunscreen as part of my morning skincare routine. Tatcha knocked it out of the park with this product.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PRICE…

At $65,  the Tatcha Pore Perfectly Sunscreen is painfully pricey for a product that you should be applying (liberally) every day. They do sell a travel version on their website for $15, so you can try it out before taking the plunge.

As soon as I realized I was starting to run low, I started saving it for more special occasions. Like when I know I’ll be in the sun all day and need to keep my makeup on point. But with that said, when the day comes that I squeeze the last drop out of this tube, I will repurchase. I really do believe it’s worth it.

If the Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen does not fit into your budget, the sunscreen I’ve had in my kit up until this point is La Roche Posay’s Anthelios Sunscreen. I also love the Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen but it contains alcohol so I prefer to not keep it in my kit. This Biore sunscreen is a Japan exclusive, but you can order it on Amazon here.
